This book is not rare, on the contrary it is quite common. However, it comes complete with the rare, genuine first edition dust jacket. Apart from the fact that it is a genuinely interesting book the dust jacket is the only reason to show it here.
Original publisher’s blue cloth gilt, 8vo., pp. xxix, 1, 1, (1), 275, Inserted is a message from The Bodley Head with a request for a review.
Illustrated with 17 b/w photographs, 4 chromoxylographs and a folding map.
The dust jacket chipped at the upper edges and with a tear at the bottom.
Belgrave elaborately describes the environment of Siwa, the Berber population, their customs, habits and superstitions, as well as its history. He uses various sources, both collected by himself or written by experts on the history of Egypt like Gaston Maspero.
