Publisher’s original green cloth with the spine titled in gilt, 8vo., pp. xv, (1), 324 with the errata slip (“corrections”) bound between the preliminary text and the main text. Complete with the half title page. Some rubbing to the spine, the bookplate of the American diplomat Francis White on the inner front board. The contents untrimmed and unopened.

Illustrated with a tinted lithograph as frontispiece, protected by a tissue guard and another 13 tinted lithographs, of which 2 folding plus a b/w plate and a folding b/w plate, so 16 plates in total. The contents complete and in a fine condition including all illustrations.

Note on the bookplate: Francis White (1892 – 1961) was an American diplomat who studied at Yale and the École des Sciences Politiques in Paris. Early in his career he was stationed in cities like Beijing, Tehran, Havana, Buenos Aires and Madrid, after which he became Assistant Secretary of State for Latin America. Later he became embassador In Prague, Mexico City and Stockholm.
His bookplate shows buildings and monuments of some of the places where he worked.
